All nine Phillies had at least one hit, one run scored, and one
RBI.
Ponch Ortiz 4-6 Run, 3RBI and the Win
Rich Letus 3-5 2HR's, 4Runs, 3RBI
Danny Harrison 4-7 HR, 3Runs, 4RBI
Donnie Harrison 3-6 4Runs, 2RBI
Jason Branch 2-5 2Runs, 3RBI
Mike Askay 2-6 3Runs, RBI
JP Poehler 1-5 3Runs, 4RBI
Todd Bradbury 1-3 3Runs, RBI
Gary Helgeson 2-7 Run, RBI
This was the game
that would never end. Nearly 4 hours, 46 Runs, 43 Hits, seven
lead changes, Eight Homeruns (including three players hitting
two each), 12 errors. The game seesawed back and forth. Twice
the Phillies held a lead of 5 or more runs and both times the
Marlins roared back to tie the game. But after the Phillies gave
up 4 unearned runs in the bottom of the 8th, they rallied back
in the top of the 9th with a leadoff homerun by Rich Letus, an
RBI single by Danny Harrison, and an RBI by Mike Askay to take
the lead. But of course the Marlins refused to go down without a
fight as the bottom of the ninth saw the Marlins score one run
before Ponch Ortiz struck out the final batter of the game with
the tying runs on base to end it.
Great Championship Series with two evenly matched teams and both
games going back and forth and coming down to the final outs in
the ninth.
The Phillies go 5-0 in the postseason as they win their first
championship. Mike Askay was named the playoff MVP with three
wins, 37Ks, and an ERA of 0.78 |
( Marlins)
The Marlins gave the Phillies all they could handle for the
second straight game only to come up just short. Amazing effort
by all of the Marlins players, especially after an exhausting
game one. This team never gave up even when down several runs
with quality pitchers throwing against us multiple times today.
This was a testament to how great of season we had and the
amount of great competitors we had on this Marlin team. This
game truly was a spectacle to be a part of. We tip our hats to
the Phillies who played great in both games today and earn a
deserved championship.
J. Vu 5-7, 2B, HR, 4 Runs, RBI
J. Swisher 3-4, 2HR's, 2 Runs, 3 RBI
B. O'Neill 4-7, 3 Runs, 3 RBI
S. Goodman 2-5, 2HR's, BB, HBP, 3 Runs, 6 RBI
K. Deckrow 3-6, 3 Runs
R. Fitzgerald 3-7, Run, RBI
T. Plyler 2-6, Run, 4 RBI
J. Sun 2-6, Run, RBI. |

A tired Marlin team completed the double-header sweep to advance
to the championship games next week. Very tough defense and
quality pitching was the recipe in this one. J. Swisher 5IP, 3
Hits, 6BB's, 5K's, 3ER's, and the Win. T. Newman 2IP, 1 Hit, 0
BB's, 0 Runs. J. Sun 2IP, 1 Hit, 0 BB's, 2K's, 0 Runs, and the
Save. S. Swenson 2-3, 2B, HBP, 2 Runs, RBI. J. Springgate 2-4,
RBI. G. Sun 2-5, RBI. Great defensive contributions all around,
but especially by S. Goodman in the ninth inning taking away a
sure game tying double on an over the head towards the fence
catch for the second out. |
